Long before Calvin Klein’s poster boys marched into public view, Alan B. Stone was taking erotic photo-graphs of men for physique magazines during the '50s and early '60s. These semi-clandestine magazines were all about gay desire but had to be disguised as educational. This film takes us back to a time before the gay liberation when sexuality was an extremely private affair for many men. It also provides a unique snapshot into the time and into Stone's enigmatic life and impressive body of work where homoerotic photo-graphy was the expression of gay desire. |

Envisioning more than it documents, this film celebrates dyke femme identities, combining farce and seduction with analysis and personal history. For years, femmes have forged a community and created a space for themselves out of edgy performance and authentic parody where bursts of queer burlesque amplify the idea of a femme drag. Interviews feature a host of fabulous femmes, including actress/ writer Guinivere Turner, novelist/activist Jewelle Gomez, poet Meliza Bañales, rock stars Leslie Mah (Tribe8) and Bitch (Bitch & Animal), professors, activists, artists and dancers. |
