HalloQueens
That time of the year again. Dust the feathers, the tails, the horns (not that many need to do it), but in preparation for the night of the ghosts and monsters, everything is possible. This month there are many activities with many excuses to keep the warmth of summer still among us. Rejoice and take part in many of the great events that the season has to offer. As for the "Dia de los muertos" many will wonder what will happen in our city and gov. Let's hope we can scare all the bad spirits and be seduced by all the fearies that are roaming out there. I hope to see many of you in our screenings at QMA, and during the other programs that we plan to carry on this Fall. HC If you'd like, you can drop us a line: pink@cinemarosa.org to let us know what is happening in your Queer radar.

It Ain't Tiffany's
Officially sanctioned by the NHL and the Toronto Maple Leafs, Breakfast with Scot represents the first time a professional sports league has allowed their logo and uniforms to be used in a gay-themed movie. Thrity something, Eric (Tom Cavanagh) lives for all things hockey. He's managed to turn his stint as an ex- Toronto Maple Leaf into a full-time gig as commentator for sports TV. He's living the dream! He and his partner Sam (Ben Shenkman), a lawyer, live discreetly on a tree-lined street in Toronto.
All their tranquility is disrupted when they receive news that Sam's brother Billy's ex-girlfriend has died, leaving custody of her son Scot (Noah Bernett) to Billy. But adventure-seeking Billy is somewhere in South America, and that leaves Scot without a guardian. Much to Eric's disapproval, Sam agrees to take Scot in. Dressed in vibrant colors, his mother's charm bracelet and with a penchant for musicals and Christmas carols, he's not quite the 'boy' they expected. See it

Midwestern Transplant
No, it's not that I went lez or straight, but Trans singer Joshua Klipp has me all ga-ga for his music and g-bending looks. He is visiting NYC to perform three shows promoting his hit album Won't Stop Now, and I must say, can't wait to see him again. The FTM superstar born in Tennesse blends many R&B flavors in his music that can be described as "urban pop", blending the hottest elements of R&B, hip hop, dance and rock music. As a singer and dancer he first burst his way onto the music scene with the he release of his 2006 EP, "Patience", containing the ground breaking track, "Little Girl", featured on The Tyra Banks Show, and Showtime's "The L Word", Season 4. The release of his EP, "Patience" and album, "Won't Stop Now" contained the ground breaking track, "Little Girl", which marked the first time in music history that a transman recorded a song alongside his former voice. This remarkable song has been featured on national television as well as radio programs around the country.
This Midwest transplant, lives in Northern California, where he writes and records music with his co-writer, Kristopher Cloud (Javier (Columbia), Aundrea of Danity Kane). Joshua's tracks feature Bay Area talents such as famed hip hopper Katastrophe ("Pick Up the Mic") and upcoming hip hop rocker, Hollywood. Josh Klipp performs at Sugarland October 16, The Slipper Room October 17 and Stone Wall Inn October18. Hear it

Sportin' Gays
What if the star of the high school football team was gay? Openly gay sports journalist and award winning writer Bill Konigsberg gives us his latest novel Out of the Pocket. The story centers around 17 year old star quarterback Bobby Framingham. He is one of the most talented high school football players in California, and despite his efforts to be just like everyone in the team, he knows he's different from his teammates. They are like brothers, but they don't know one essential thing: Bobby is gay. Can he still be one of the guys and be honest about who he is? When he's outed against his will by a student reporter, Bobby must find a way to earn back his teammates' trust and accept that his path to success might be more public, and more difficult, than he'd hoped. An affecting novel about identity that also delivers great sports writing.
About other players like Bobby, the author declares in his blog that yes, "there are absolutely guys like Bobby everywhere. He's just a normal kid who grew up in a normal family, who has something about him that is "different." He's gay." Konigsberg's story is based not much on his own personal experience as a baseball player when he was a kid, but on his observations and reflections of the testosterone driven culture of sports, "If we're talking about men, sports is one of the last bastions of "masculinity" and some guys (and I mean players, owners and fans) are fiercely protective of their games," he declares, and continues "our culture has made good strides at accepting the fact that gays exist, but I think we have a ways to go." And yes we do, and it is books like this one that pave the road for young people to feel they belong no matter what their orientation might be. (Dutton Books, 2008, 264 pages).

Ordinary Christ
Originally opening ten years ago at the Manhattan Theatre Club to intense protest and bomb threats, Terrence McNally's dramatic work Corpus Christi will perform for a two-week limited engagement run at the Rattlestick Theatre. Returning to New York City for the first time since its original opening, the play, this time directed by Nic Arnzen, follows the familiar birth-to-crucifixion (but not redemption) story of Jesus and his Twelve Apostles. McNally revised it, and Jesus and his apostles are presented as ordinary people in professions ranging from hairdresser and hustler to the usual doctor and lawyer. The original tale is still there -- Nativity, the Sermon on the Mount, the Last Supper -- but with substitutions to make it more contemporary and in tune with the vibes and rants of today's Gay culture. Arnzen's smart production gives the script more punch and relevance especially in the final scene where the brutal murder of Mat Sheppard in Wyoming is referenced.
While sex scenes are never graphic, Corpus Christi's originality came under universal attack by religious organizations who threatened to stop its presentation and to even lynch McNally who in his long career has deftly dramatized homophobia in works like "Lips Together, Teeth Apart." This version of Corpus Christi is by the Los Angeles-based 108 Productions, which began performing the piece over two years ago and brought the show across the country and abroad to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Dublin International Gay Theatre Festival.
