| In Bad Company / En malas compañías Dir. Antonio Hens (Spain, 2000, 17 min) A high school boy cruises the bathroom of the local mall on a regular basis. When his English tutor teaches him more than to say "I like banana," he opens up to new experiences despite being caught by his disapproving father. Despite his parent's disapproval, and the mall police's crack down of the bathroom, his sexual adventures become defiantly public. Koko Dir. Anna-Margarita Albelo (France, 1998, 15 min) A young Parisian thief mixed up with the mob agrees to do one last job. Inspired by Jean Luc Godard "Abus de Souffle," Koko is a fun,new adaptation of the Nouvelle Vague classic set in the parisean underground where the main characters are played by wild women! Take-Out Dir Jean-Francois Monette (Canada, 2001, 38 min) Clever and involving mini feature film follows Rory, your typical American high school student who who alternates his devotion to the field of athletics with an evening job as a take-out delivery boy. His crisis of sexuality is spurred on by his best friend and coworker Enzo. But Rory isn't interested in Enzo's supposed sexual exploits. But on a delivery like any other, Rory meets Pete, a middle-age man in the midst of a breakdown. And the adventure begins... Cache Dir. Carolyn Coal (USA, 1998, 30 min) Part reverie, part real-time, and part narrated flashbacks: four young women rob a bank. We see some of the action from their points of view, and some is recounted to the police by a bank teller, an observant woman bemused by the whole experience. The four robbers have what seems like an idyllic life, but there are some problems, and they think money will solve them. What happens when they get what they wish for? |

Pink Punch / Puños Rosas Dir. Beto Gomez (Mexico, 2005, 100 min) Jimmy Morales is a young boxer who also works in his family funerary business frequently used by the local mafia. One night he witnesses a murder and the killer, Germán Corona, lets him run away. They find each other again in jail, and their last encounter will mark them both forever. A romantic crime story in the mold of the new Mexican reality cinema (Amores Perros, Nicotina and the like), brakes all preconceptions of jail life and macho stereotypes in the sport of boxing. The film is not located in gritty Mexico City, but in the northern border town of Matamoros, where the underground mafia controls people and their attitudes. Preceded by the presentation of Ay, Mijo ! (Roberto Espinosa, USA , 2005, 19 min) from CINEMAROSA’s Short Film Library. Discussion about Queer Independent Mexican Cinema will follow the screenings. Light refreshment after the presentation at the Unisphere Gallery of QMA. |
