Envisioning Justice Dir. Larry Tung, USA, 2008, 32 min. Documentary about the life and work of Korean born, NYC based transgender activist, Pauline Park who co-founded the New York Association for Gender Rights Advocacy (NYAGRA), the first statewide transgender advocacy organization in the city. Green Stalk Dirs. D. Almoradie & C.Q. Ramilo, Philippines/USA, 2004, 17min. The street noise of Queens, New York forms a rhythmic backdrop for a Filipina video clerk whose life of quiet isolation is disrupted by an older woman. Rich in location shots redolent of the dislocation of movement even in their ultra-crisp stillness, the film reaches for rootedness while admitting its impossibility. Through its "queer eye," the urban United States is disordered, displaced, remade anew. Hustler WP Dir. Craig Cobb, USA, 2006, 20 min. A pair of unlikely buddies live their own queer underground NYC story. Skahead, a black traditional rude-boy skinhead, and Rolf, a white queer neo-nazi homeless skinhead street hustler, have remained friends despite Rolf's unique ideology. The promise of a night on the town with a couple of German tourists leads them on an absurd chase to score drugs and sex revealing, in turn, how the bonds of friendship can surpass the limits of idiosyncrasies. Swimsuit Dir. Mark Thiedeman, USA, 2007, 16 mins. Paul, a naive loner in a coastal town, meets a quiet young stranger, Charlie, on a gloomy day at the beach. They spend a sweet and quiet afternoon together, starting an unlikely friendship that blurs the line between romantic and platonic affection. Fabulousity Dir. John Goodwin. USA, 2007, 5 min. A video animation about a conservative couple finding out that their son will be born with "fabulousity." |
